Japan Cherry Blossom Serenity photo tour journey

Chasing the fleeting beauty of Japan's cherry blossoms,           iPhone are welcome

The Japan Cherry Blossom Serenity Photo Tour offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Japan’s breathtaking Sakura season, combining expert guidance with access to stunning locations that highlight the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms. Ideal for photographers of all skill levels, this tour insures you can capture the delicate pink blooms in their full glory while enjoying the serene ambiance that surrounds them. Participants will create spectacular images that will deepen their appreciation for this culturally significant season.

Day 1, April 2, Friday

  • Depart from North America or from other home ports on a day that allows you to arrive in Tokyo, Japan  (airport code HNE)  on April 2.  Upon arrival take a taxi for the short ride to the hotel where you can rest after the long flight.  At 5:30 p.m. we will meet as a group in the hotel lobby for a meet and greet, an orientation to the tour, and an opportunity to address any photography questions you may have at this time. This will be followed by a welcome dinner. Overnight stay in Tokyo.

Day 2, April 3, Saturday

  • This morning we will wake up early for sunrise at Senso-ji Temple because it is less crowded at this time.. The soft morning light is stunning, and the resulting photographs are classically beautiful.  We return to the hotel  for breakfast, and then we visit the vibrant atmosphere of  Asakusa. This area is known for its traditional wooden house narrow alleys.  You will want to photograph the iconic Kaminarimon Gate which is imposing and beautiful.  We have lunch in the area, and then in the afternoon we explore the bustling Nakamise Shopping Street. This 200-meter-long street leading to Senso-ji Temple is lined with over 50 shops selling traditional Japanese snacks, souvenirs, and crafts. It's a great place to pick up some unique mementos.  For dinner, you have a variety of options. You could try a local izakaya (Japanese pub) for a casual dining experience, or if you're feeling adventurous, explore the nearby Ueno area for a wider range of dining options. Overnight in Tokyo. 

Day 3, April 4, Sunday

  • Our early morning sunrise at  the Merguro River is dramatic.  The waterway is engulfed and surrounded by cherry blossoms.  We then return to the hotel for breakfast. In the mid-morning, we visit the famous fish market, followed by lunch in the nearby area. We then continue our exploration of Sakura Zaka Hill/Street,.  and Shibuya Crossing, one of the busiest intersections in the world. Watch the organized chaos of people crossing from all directions.  Nearby, we will find the Hachiko statue, a tribute to a celebrated dog from the 1920's. We have an early dinner followed by twilight at Shibuya Sky, a rooftop observation deck offering panoramic views of Tokyo. Watching the sunset from here is a magical experience providing a perfect end to a great day.. Overnight in Tokyo. 

Day 4, April 5, Monday

  • Today we depart for Kyoto via bullet train. The journey takes approximately 2.5 hours.  We check into our hotel, enjoy a light lunch and some leisure time. After an early dinner, we photograph sunset and twilight at the iconic 7th century Yasaka Shrine,  The shrine is particularly beautiful during this time, with the setting sun casting a warm glow over the ancient structures.  In the same area, the Gion Bridges are exceptionally picturesque, especially at twilight when the lights reflect in the water of the rivers. You will also explore the charming alleys and backstreets of Gion. This area is famous for its geisha culture, and you might spot a geisha or maiko. Overnight in Kyoto

Day 5, April 6, Tuesday

  This morning we wake up early for sunrise lighting on Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Yasaka Pagoda before the crowds arrive. After we've taken awesome pictures, we return for breakfast.  Later we'll visit Koshin-do Temple, followed by a stroll along the Ninenzaka walkway which is lined with historic Japanese-style buildings that typify Kyoto. We will have lunch and some leisure time. In the afternoon, we will participate in a Japanese cooking class, followed by dinner. Overnight in Kyoto.

Day 6, April 7, Wednesday

Begin your day with sunrise at the iconic Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. As the first rays of sunlight illuminate the thousands of vermilion torii gates,  capture one of the most iconic shots in all of Japan. 

We then return back to the hotel for breakfast. Following this, we drive to 8th century Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple. Nestled in the Arashiyama area, this lesser-known gem features over 1,200 unique stone statues of rakan (disciples of Buddha), each with its own personality. Take your time to wander through the temple grounds and appreciate the ancient artistry.  


In the afternoon, explore the impresisve Bamboo Grove and Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple.  We stroll through towering stalks of bamboo that sway gently in the breeze, creating an ethereal atmosphere that photographs beautifully. Afterward, we visit Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple, known for its serene setting and thousands of small stone statues, each representing the souls of the deceased. Following dinner but before sunset we visit the Kimono Forest. The vibrant colors of the kimono-patterned pillars come alive, creating a stunning visual display. Take a leisurely walk through this artistic installation, capturing the beauty of Kyoto as day transitions to night. Overnight in Kyoto


Day 7, April 8, Thursday

Early this morning we take a sunrise stroll along the Philosopher's Path. This picturesque walkway, lined with cherry blossom trees and beautiful canals, offers a peaceful atmosphere perfect for reflection. We then have the remarkable cultural experience  in the late afternoon of witnessing a tea ceremony.  The women are dressed in beautiful kimonos and participate in this time-honored ritual.  You'll learn about the art of tea preparation and the significance of each step. Enjoy the delicate flavors of matcha tea paired with seasonal sweets, all while appreciating the elegance and grace of this cherished tradition. Overnight in Kyoto


Day 8, April 9, Friday

Begin your day with a stunning sunrise at the Keage Incline, a historic railway track lined with cherry blossom trees.  After soaking in the morning tranquility, head back for breakfast. In the afternoon, dive into the vibrant atmosphere of Nishiki Market, often referred to as "Kyoto's Kitchen." Stroll through the bustling aisles filled with local delicacies, fresh produce, and artisanal crafts. Sample a variety of traditional snacks, from pickled vegetables to sweet treats, and immerse yourself in the lively culture of Kyoto as you interact with local vendors.  This is followed by our farewell dinner. Overnight in Kyoto

Day 9, April 10, Saturday

The journey has concluded.. Wishing everyone safe travels home and countless beautiful photos!
