France in Bloom

Capturing timeless moments in Provence during the peak of the lavender blossom ( iPhones are welcome )

July 2- 8, 2026

  • On our photo tours, we strive to capture the essence of life through our lenses. France in bloom is the perfect example. Long rows of lavender flowers in dazzling shades of purple, stunning fields of giant sunflowers, and charming French villages -- what could be more exciting for a European photo tour!  The Provence region of France is a lot more than amazing color.  It is also  picture-perfect villages, Medieval abbeys, and Roman ruins.  We will take advantage of the best light -- sunrise and sunset -- to capture award-winning images.  Twilight is also beautiful for the villages and the Medieval architecture, and the contrast of the cobalt blue sky with romantically illuminated architecture is visually arresting.

Day 1, July 2, Wednesday

  • Depart from your home city and arrive in Marseille, France.  Our group will meet at the Starbucks in the arrival area of the main airport terminal at 1pm on July 2.  We will then leave for our hotel in the heart of lavender country.  Here we will base our operations for the first part of the trip. After checking in, we'll drive to  Moustiers - Sainte Marie for our welcome dinner and sunset photo shoot.  Overnight in Manosque

Day 2, July 3, Thursday

  • We spend the day today photographing the beautiful lavender fields in and around Manosque as well as the quaint village itself. We'll shoot from elevated perspectives where telephoto lenses are the perfect choice as well as from the edge of the lavender rows where both wide angles and telephoto lenses capture the graphic designs, the wonderful color and texture, and the repetitive patterns of the lavender flowers.  Low angled sunlight adds warmth to the scenes, and by including the sun with a wide angle the images look magical.  At twilight, we will photograph the beautiful village of Gordes.  It's stunning. Overnight in Manosque

Day 3, July 4, Friday

  • This morning we photograph sunrise on the hillside village of Banon with a beautiful field of lavender in the foreground.  We then shoot in Valensole with curved rows of lavender acting as classic leading lines.   It makes a fabulous sunset shot. Overnight Manosque

Day 4, July 5, Saturday

  • After breakfast we capture sunrise at Les Mees.  This village situated among huge boulders was established in the 11th century.  Rows of lavender create repetitive leading lines directed toward the village.  The town itself is charming and wonderful to explore. In the late afternoon we'll explore another beautiful village, Sisteron.  Both sunset and twilight here are breathtaking as viewed from across the river. Overnight in Manosque.

Day 5, July 6, Sunday

  • For sunrise this morning we photograph Senanque Abbey, famous among photographers because of the rows of lavender that create a fantastic foreground to the Medieval structure that was consecrated in the year 1178. This is a great place to use a telephoto lens to compress the elements in the scene..  We follow this with a visit to Saint-Remy-de-Provence to photograph the beautiful St. Paul-De-Mausolea monastery and the lavender field in front of it as well as the wonderful cloisters. Overnight near Goult

Day 6, July 7, Monday

  •  We will begin our day with sunrise photography in the charming medieval village of Lacoste, after which we'll head back to the hotel for breakfast. Following that, we'll take a circular route to the town of Roussillon, where we will stroll through the streets capturing stunning images of the quaint windows and vibrant doors, while also enjoying more lavender fields. Overnight near Goult

Day 7, July 8, Tuesday

  • After breakfast, we'll head to the Lavender Museum, Musée de la Lavande Luberon, where we can learn about the process of creating lavender essential oil and enjoy some shopping at our leisure. In the afternoon, we'll visit the town of Gordes for sunset.  The view overlooking the town is magnificent. Overnight near Goult

Day 8, July 9, Wednesday

  • After having breakfast, we'll leave Goult.  Expect to reach the airport by 11 am to check in for your return flight home.
